Director Kim Hyung Tae mentioned being inspired by titles like Nier: Automata, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Bayonetta while developing the stunning action RPG. The post-apocalyptic manga Battle Angel Alita and sci-fi films such as Blade Runner also played an important role in shaping the game's direction.

Nier: Automata in particular had a profound effect on the development of Stellar Blade. Kim expressed that the first time he played Square Enix's title was "shocking" and led him to rediscover the type of game he wanted to make.

According to Kim, Stellar Blade will be a mix of linear progression and semi-open world areas. For example, the early stages of the adventure will be linear, but once you reach the city of Zion, there will be a change of pace and the player will be able to explore vast environments.

In terms of gameplay, Stellar Blade is described as an adrenaline-fueled action game that will require players to use a wide range of combos and read opponents' movements for timely dodges and parries. EVE, the protagonist, can wield an extensive arsenal of long-range weapons. Boss battles are emphasised as a central element, with considerable effort put into making them unique and compelling. Players will be able to select difficulty levels according to their preferences.

In the gameplay trailer shown during the recent State of Play, EVE's outfit changes are shown. Kim mentioned that there are between 20 and 30 costumes, including some for supporting characters Adam and Lily. Costumes can be purchased in the city or crafted using special materials and resources. Rare costumes are also teased, promising an element of excitement for players to anticipate.
