Game Source Entertainment (GSE) announced on November 16, 2024, that the rhythm-based action game RATATAN, considered the spiritual successor to Patapon, will launch in 2025. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4.

Rhythm and Roguelike Meet Multiplayer Action

RATATAN merges rhythm-based gameplay with roguelike elements in a side-scrolling format. Players can engage in the action solo or team up with friends, as the game supports multiplayer mode for up to four players. Battles involve large-scale skirmishes with over 100 characters clashing on-screen, all synchronized to an energetic, rhythmic soundtrack.

Gameplay Mechanics: Strategy Meets the Beat

The core gameplay revolves around issuing rhythm commands to direct the Cobun, the game's minion-like characters. Players must guide their party strategically, deciding when to advance, attack, or retreat, while staying in sync with the music. Successfully keeping to the beat triggers the FEVER MODE, a feature that heightens the intensity of battles. In this mode, background music dynamically shifts, and Cobun perform a frenzied dance, creating a visually and aurally immersive experience. Multiplayer FEVER MODE promises to amplify the excitement even further.

Musical Themes: Setting the Tone for Adventure

RATATAN features an original soundtrack designed to enhance its rhythmic gameplay. One standout track, Fortrun’s Theme, captures the joy of the game’s vibrant world. It reflects Fortrun’s character as he leads his companions in a musical parade, drawing players into the rhythm-infused journey.

A Unique Blend of Genres

RATATAN aims to deliver a heartfelt adventure by blending rhythm commands with strategic decision-making in a roguelike structure. Fans of rhythm-action games and those familiar with Patapon’s legacy may find this title worth exploring.

Stay tuned for more updates as RATATAN approaches its 2025 release.
