Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have filed a lawsuit against Pocket Fair, the developer of the game PalWorld, alleging multiple instances of intellectual property infringement. On 19 September 2024, Nintendo issued a press release confirming that it and The Pokémon Company had filed a patent infringement lawsuit with the Tokyo District Court the day before, on 18 September 2024.

The lawsuit alleges that PalWorld, which was released by Pocket Fair in January 2024, infringes several patents related to Pokémon. Nintendo is seeking both an injunction to stop the alleged infringements and damages.

In response to concerns raised about the similarities between certain PalWorld characters and those from Pokémon, Pocket Fair previously stated that it had conducted a legal review prior to the game's release and had not received any claims of plagiarism at the time. However, Nintendo's legal action contradicts this, claiming that it never gave permission for the use of Pokémon intellectual property in a game released in January 2024.

Nintendo has also emphasised its commitment to protecting its intellectual property and brand, stating that it will continue to respond to any attempts to infringe the rights it has established over many years of effort. The lawsuit is part of an ongoing investigation into possible copyright theft related to the Pokémon franchise.
